Originally built by the 7th Duke of Bedford, Brown's most interesting feature is its ancient well that can now be found in its conservatory. Believed to have been constructed by the Romans, its fresh water still runs today and is bottled on the premises, available for you to try.
Particularly renowned for its traditional Sunday lunches, the Brasserie features a varied menu of locally sourced meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, chosen and prepared by a professional chef. Lunch is available for around 15 GBP, with dinner costing approximately 35 GBP. Meals are also on offer in the bar area.By car:
- Leave the A30 near Sourton Down, via the A386.
- When you reach Tavistock, stay on the A386 over Stannary Bridge.
- When the reach the Dolvin Road mini roundabout, take the 2nd exit over the river into Abbey Place.
- Do not turn left onto Plymouth Road, keep straight on into Bedford Square.
- Turn left into West Street, and the hotel will be on your right (just after King Street).
